However, this game has a captivating variant that has gained immense popularity in Pakistan nowadays, as one of its videos has surfaced all over the internet, collecting a lot of attention. This unique and innovative style of Kabbadi is known as ‘Thappad’ or Slap Kabaddi, in which the authentic style of fighting shifts from tackling or evading to engaging in a slapping contest. Not only this iteration has gathered a crowd at the game spot, but its videos are rapidly spreading its reach on social media.

This sport involves a lot of slapping, which entertains people watching it. Interestingly, during their slapping contest, the players dress in the traditional gear of Kabaddi and keep on slapping the opponent until one has enough. To witness this unique style of game, a huge crowd gathers at venues.

How to play Slap Kabaddi?

In a media report, a Slap Kabaddi player, Haji Tassawur said, “Match is between two individuals. One player scores the point by hitting, while the other player defends to erase that point. In the sport, punches are considered fouls. A player can slap his opponent as many times as he wants, the number of slaps is not an issue.”

The viral clip shows two men playing Slap Kabaddi, slapping each other so hard, either on the face or the chest untill the winner is announced or one of the players taps out. 

This contest is not only about the game, but the winner receives a handsome amount of prize money from the people gathered around to watch the game. 

The player also said, “People around here prefer to see the kabaddi with slapping over the traditional one. They get amused when they watch the game and they cheer and clap.’
