Amidst a concerning surge in COVID-19 cases, Singapore is gearing up to tackle the escalating threat with heightened vigilance and precautionary measures. Singapore is facing a fresh wave of Covid-19 infections, with authorities reporting an uptick of 25,900 cases from May 5 to 11. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has advised the public to resume wearing masks as a protective measure in light of this surge.
Minister Ong anticipates the wave to peak within the next two to four weeks, foreseeing a culmination by mid-to end of June. However, with daily hospitalizations and intensive care unit (ICU) cases increasing, the healthcare system is preparing for potential strain.
To preserve hospital bed capacity, public hospitals are instructed to reduce non-urgent elective surgeries and transition suitable patients to alternative care facilities or home-based care models. This proactive approach aims to alleviate pressure on healthcare resources amidst rising case numbers.
🦠 COVID-19 cases are on the rise, with 25,900 cases in the week of 5 to 11 May, compared to 13,700 the week before.
