An Indian woman tragically lost her life after reportedly jumping from the Royal Caribbean Cruise while it was navigating through the Singapore Strait, news reports said.
The incident prompted her son, a Melbourne-based businessman named Apoorv Sahani, to seek assistance from the Indian government. He accused the cruise staff of neglecting their responsibilities and ‘washing their hands off’.
Sahani took to Twitter to reach out to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), imploring them to aid in locating his missing mother.
He tagged MEA S Jaishankar and tweeted, “My mother was travelling in Royal Caribbean cruise (spectrum of the seas) from Singapore. She has gone missing from the ship since this morning. Cruise staff are saying she jumped, but they have not shown us any footage and are washing their hands off.”

According to Sahani, the Royal Caribbean cruise staff informed him that his mother had jumped overboard, but he alleged that they failed to provide surveillance footage or conduct a search and rescue operation. Furthermore, they off-boarded his father without offering any assistance in locating his missing wife, he claimed.
2/2 They didn't carry out any rescue operation and off boarded my dad. Is this even humane? Requesting urgent help from high commissioner of India, mea and Dr jaishankar …pls help @DrSJaishankar @MEAIndia @PMOIndia

Subsequently, Sahahi updated that the cruise liner had shared the footage, confirming that his mother had passed away on what would have been her birthday.
“Thank you for showing your overwhelming support in this time of distress for my family & I will forever be grateful. The cruise liner finally did share the footage with us & a search is also underway. With the footage we have unfortunately learnt that my mother has passed away,” he said.

The woman, identified as 64-year-old Reeta Sahani, was aboard the ‘Spectrum of the Seas’ cruise ship with her husband, 70-year-old Jakesh Sahani, during the voyage to Singapore, as per a report by Singapore-based news outlet Strait Times.
Apoorv Sahani, in an interview with a Singapore media outlet, reiterated the family’s request to view the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to ascertain the incident involving his mother. “The cruise crew believes that she jumped, but her whereabouts remain uncertain,” he explained.
In response, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) disclosed that the ‘passenger had fallen in the Singapore Strait’. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) has initiated search operations and issued safety advisories to vessels in the vicinity, urging them to remain vigilant and report any potential sightings to the MRCC.
