An Indian-origin man has been sentenced to 20 years of jail in Singapore for culpable homicide not amounting to the murder of his girlfriend, Mallika Begum Rahamansa Abdul Rahman, 40.According to the sources, the accused has been identified M Krishnan, who killed his girlfriend for having relationships with other men. The victim died on January 17, 2019. The court pleaded him guilty in the High Court last week. The sentence was back-dated to the date of arrest. Justice Valerie Thean at Singapore court noted that Krishnan had promised to reform in 2018 during his mitigation for another offense of abusing police officers, but continued to abuse his wife and girlfriend. She also acknowledged that while Krishnans explosive disorder contributed to the violent actions, alcohol also added to his behavior.Notably, Krishnan was involved in an extra-marital affair with Mallika was had two daughters from her previous marriage. Krishnan and Mallika stayed together until her death and their relationship worsened after 2017, when he hit her for the first time but the abuse intensified in 2019 when Mallika admitted of having physical relations with several men, including when Krishnan was in jail in 2018. Krishnans lawyer contended before the hearing that his client had turned himself into the police, entered an early guilty plea, and provided complete cooperation throughout the inquiry. Additionally, he said that Mallikas associations with other men had clouded his judgment and that Krishnan had been managing his alcohol intake.
