Colombian citizens remained anxious and concerned on Friday as authorities conducted a search for four Indigenous children who were passengers on a small plane that crashed in the Amazon jungle. Unfortunately, the children have not been located yet, while the three adults who were also on board the plane tragically lost their lives in the crash.

In the early hours of May 1, a tragic incident occurred when a Cessna single-engine propeller plane carrying six passengers and a pilot experienced an engine failure, prompting the declaration of an emergency. Shortly after the distress call, the aircraft disappeared from the radar, triggering an urgent and frantic search operation for any survivors.

On Tuesday, Colombian troops discovered the wreckage of the plane and recovered the bodies of the pilot, a guide, and the mother of the children. However, the search efforts were disheartening as there was no trace of the Indigenous children who were onboard. The four youngsters, belonging to the Uitoto Indigenous community, were identified as Lesly Jacobombaire Mucutuy (13), Soleiny Jacobombaire Mucutuy (9), Tien Noriel Ronoque Mucutuy (4), and Cristin Neriman Ranoque Mucutuy (11 months).

On Wednesday, there was a moment of hope when Colombian President Gustavo Petro made a Twitter announcement claiming that the four missing children had been found alive. However, this optimism quickly faded as Petro deleted the tweet later on, admitting that the information provided by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) could not be verified. Petro expressed regret for the situation and assured that the Military Forces and Indigenous communities would persist in their relentless search to deliver the news that the nation anxiously awaits.

Colombians have been engaged in discussions and speculations regarding different discoveries made during the search operation, trying to determine if they are related to the missing children. These findings include a baby bottle found one day and a pair of scissors discovered the next day, suggesting the presence of a makeshift shelter made of leaves.

Furthermore, the company that owned the plane released a statement revealing that one of their pilots, who was in the vicinity, had received information from certain members of a local Indigenous community. According to this information, the children were supposedly en route to a village via a riverboat. However, the children never arrived at their intended destination, raising further questions and uncertainties.

According to another report, it was stated that the children had boarded a boat on the Apaporis River with the destination set for the village of Cachiporra. However, when the boat reached its destination, the children were not found among its passengers.
