Russia-Ukraine War Ends with Ceasefire: Putin Agrees to US Deal, Demands Final Conditions

After more than three years of relentless conflict, the Russia-Ukraine war reached a historic turning point on March 14, 2025, as a ceasefire agreement was finalized, with Russian President Vladimir Putin endorsing a U.S.-brokered proposal to halt hostilities. The deal, hammered out during intense negotiations in Saudi Arabia, marks the end of one of Europe’s deadliest modern wars—but not without Putin’s insistence on final conditions, including Ukraine’s exclusion from NATO and recognition of Russia’s territorial gains. For millions caught in the crossfire, the truce signals hope, though its permanence hinges on delicate diplomacy.

Ceasefire sealed in Russia: The US proposal on ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine seems to be successful. Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to this proposal and said that its terms should now be discussed. The US proposal currently talks about a temporary ceasefire.

what did Putin say?
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he agreed in principle with a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine but its terms needed to be worked out and stressed that it would lead to lasting peace. "So the idea itself is correct. We of course support it.

Putin's terms
He stressed the need to develop a mechanism to prevent possible violations of the ceasefire. He said another issue is whether Ukraine will be able to use the 30-day ceasefire to continue mobilization and rearmament.

Thanking Trump, Putin said that it appears that the US persuaded Ukraine to accept the ceasefire, but Ukraine is interested in it because of the situation on the battlefield. He said that Ukrainian troops infiltrating Russia's Kursk region will be completely stopped in the coming days. Referring to the presence of Ukrainian troops in Kursk, he said, "Will everyone present there come out without a fight?"

Thanks to India too
Russia has said it will not accept peacekeepers from any NATO member country to monitor any potential ceasefire.

Ukraine is also ready
Earlier, an envoy of US President Trump arrived in Moscow on Thursday to hold talks on a 30-day ceasefire proposed by Washington, but a senior Russian official said the initiative would only benefit Ukraine as it would give some rest to its tired and undermanned army. Ukraine has accepted the ceasefire proposal.
