New Delhi: In an unusual diplomatic moment, Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly kept China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi waiting during a crucial meeting at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg. Wang was present for a gathering of BRICS representatives to discuss security issues when the delay occurred.

Wang Yi, one of China’s top diplomats, had arrived at the historic venue in anticipation of high-level talks with global leaders on pressing security matters. However, Putin's late arrival sparked attention, particularly given the strong ties between Russia and China amid shifting global alliances.

BRICS summit and the situation

The meeting is part of a broader BRICS summit, where representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa have come together to discuss international security challenges and strategic partnerships. This summit holds significant importance for both Russia and China as they seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the face of increasing global geopolitical tensions.

While Putin’s tardiness raised eyebrows, there has been no official comment from the Kremlin or China on the matter. Both nations have previously emphasized the importance of their relationship, particularly in the context of their shared stance against Western sanctions and diplomatic pressure. This delay adds a layer of intrigue to the proceedings, with observers speculating on whether it may signal subtle tensions between the two powerful nations, or if it is simply a protocol issue. Either way, the BRICS talks continue, with key discussions on security, trade, and international cooperation expected to unfold.
