According to Russian media, the Russian government accused Ukraine of launching a drone attack on the Kremlin with the purpose of assassinating President Vladimir Putin. The alleged attack took place overnight, but the Ukrainian government has denied any involvement or knowledge of the incident.

Russia’s accusation against Ukraine for the alleged drone attack on the Kremlin is being seen as one of the largest accusations made by Russia against Kyiv since its military invasion of Ukraine’s territory 14 months ago.

The Russian government has labelled the alleged drone attack as “a premeditated act of terrorism and an assassination attempt on the life of the President of the Russian Federation.”

Here’s What We Know So Far in Russia-Ukraine Relation.

According to a report by Russian news agency TASS, Ukrainian forces directed two Unmanned Area Vehicles (UAVs) towards the Kremlin, targeting the presidential residence of Vladimir Putin. However, the specific type of drone used was not mentioned by the agency.

According to the Kremlin, two drones were utilised in the alleged attack on President Putin’s residence within the walled Kremlin citadel, but the drones were neutralised by electronic countermeasures.

The Kremlin stated that military and special services utilised “radar warfare systems” to render the UAVs inoperative. The government agency added that no one was harmed and there was no damage caused by the attack.

The Kremlin’s statement included a warning that Russia has the right to retaliate, which has raised concerns of further military escalation between the two countries. Additionally, the Russian parliament has reportedly called for an attack on Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s palace.

The Kremlin issued a statement describing the alleged attack as a “planned terrorist act” and an attempt on the life of the president, adding that it took place on the eve of Victory Day and the May 9 Parade, which is attended by foreign guests.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has rejected the accusations made by Russia and stated that he has no knowledge of any nighttime drone attacks on the Kremlin.

In a statement, Zelenskyy’s press secretary emphasised that Ukraine is focused on regaining control of its own territories and is not interested in launching attacks against other countries.

According to Russian media reports, Vladimir Putin will be working from his bunker located inside his residence in Novo-Ogarevo today.
