Russian airport Pskov near Estonia witnessed massive fire as a result of Ukrainian drone attacks which damaged two military transport planes as per media reports. Moreover, all the flights were canceled from the airport in the event of the new attack.

Six regions of Russia were targeted with drones early Wednesday which can be considered as the biggest attack on Russian soil since Moscow sent troops into Ukraine 18 months ago. The local governor of the region has however reported that there are no casualties so far despite images of smoke above the city being circulated on social media.

At the same time, Russia could not stay silent after such attacks on its soil and launched drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv after some time.

Russia’s retaliation

Russia’s retaliation came pretty quick as it launched drone attacks against Kyiv on Wednesday morning which killed two people and injured one person. Moscow has described this attack as the “most powerful” attack on the Ukrainian capital in months.

The Ukrainian forces tried their best to defend against the Russian assault and destroyed more than 20 missiles and drones of the enemy attack. Two security guards however were killed as they fell victim to falling according to authorities.

“Kyiv had not experienced such a powerful attack since spring… In total, more than 20 enemy targets were destroyed by air defense forces,” the Kyiv City Military Administration wrote on Telegram.

Military air-crafts damaged by Ukraine’s attack

Russia’s defense ministry said on Wednesday that drones were also shot down over the regions of Orlov, Bryansk, Ryazan, Kaluga, and the Moscow region surrounding the Russian capital.

Pskov is located more than 600 kilometers from Ukraine and also surrounds the EU countries of Latvia and Estonia. This region was a target in the May 2023 drone attacks as well.

Russian media has reported that four Il-76 heavy transport aircraft, which have long been the workhorse of the Russian military, were damaged at an airfield in Russia’s Pskov. Two of them caught fire and burst into flames.

The local governor Mikhail Vedernikov was at the scene during the attack and said in a post that the defence ministry is repelling a drone attack on Pskov’s airport. He also mentioned that there have been no casualties so far.

“The defense ministry is repelling a drone attack on Pskov’s airport,” Pskov regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov said on Telegram. He also added: “According to preliminary information, there are no victims.”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously said that attacks on Russian territory are an “inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process” as the war with Russia continues.
