Putin extends new year greetings to India, highlights dynamic ties and joint achievements

Putin acknowledged the advancements and bilateral cooperation between both countries in 2023.

Amidst a turbulent global landscape, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended warm New Year greetings to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India on Saturday. Pitin's message acknowledged the continued dynamism in the India-Russia relationship despite international challenges.

Putin's message read, "The messages addressed to President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi note that, despite the difficult international situation, the special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India continues to develop dynamically: in the outgoing year, trade has been growing at an exceptionally high rate and joint projects in various areas have been successfully implemented." 

He also emphasized the importance of this partnership in fostering diverse bilateral ties and coordinating efforts to bolster regional and global security and stability.

The President's office released an official statement, which reads, "Vladimir Putin praised the results of India's chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the G20 and stressed his conviction that Moscow and New Delhi will continue to develop multifaceted bilateral ties and effectively coordinate efforts to strengthen security and stability at the regional and global levels."

S Jaishankar's visit to Russia

This sentiment aligns with his recent meeting with India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who visited Moscow from December 25th to 29th as part of the ongoing high-level exchanges between the two countries.

During their meeting, Putin acknowledged Prime Minister Modi's "constructive stance" on complex global issues, including the situation in Ukraine.  Putin stated, "We know the stance of Prime Minister Modi and we mentioned that repeatedly on many occasions. Well, his attitude towards some complex developments, including the flashpoints like...in Ukraine."

Furthermore, the Russian President also stated that PM Modi has consistently provided advice regarding the Ukraine crisis.
