New Delhi: Amid escalating anti-Israel demonstrations preceding Netanyahu's scheduled address today, a pro-Palestine group asserted responsibility for releasing maggots at the Washington DC's Watergate hotel, where Israeli delegates were lodging. A widely circulated video depicted the insects scattered across a dining table, against a backdrop adorned with Israeli and American flags. Authorities are investigating whether the incident involved a breach of hotel security or if the video was staged.

"The Palestinian Youth Movement declared on social media that they orchestrated disruption at the Watergate Hotel last night to unsettle Netanyahu, Israeli Mossad agents, and the Secret Service, accusing them of perpetuating oppression against their people."

What's in viral post?

Community discussions on the same platform raised doubts, suggesting it might have been a staged incident due to stringent hotel security measures and street closures by police.

"The Instagram post accompanying a viral video claimed that mealworms, maggots (excluding Netanyahu), and crickets were deliberately left on banquet tables and released on multiple hotel floors," the statement continued. "Fire alarms were reportedly set off across several floors, ensuring no respite for Netanyahu and Congress, whom they accused of failing to achieve military and political objectives. The post concluded with a stark wish that those responsible be haunted by the consequences of their actions on Palestinian society."

No rest until the criminal is captured

"The demonstrators outside the US Capitol proclaimed, 'There will be no peace, there will be no rest, until the war criminal is captured.'"

Outside the US Capitol, demonstrators waving Palestinian flags and displaying signs with a range of messages from left-wing slogans to Bible verses gathered, demanding a ceasefire and the arrest of Prime Minister Netanyahu. Netanyahu is scheduled to seek renewed Congressional support for Israel's military actions in the Palestinian territory. Additionally, this week he will meet with both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who recently announced her entry into the 2024 presidential race following Biden's withdrawal.

Trump intention to host Israeli PM

Meanwhile, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump revealed his intention to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Palm Beach, Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, on Friday."Looking forward to welcoming Bibi Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida," Trump stated in a post on Truth Social, using Netanyahu's nickname. This meeting marks their first since Trump's presidency, during which they developed a close relationship, amidst ongoing tensions between Netanyahu and Democratic President Joe Biden over Israel's military campaign against Hamas in Gaza.
