A secluded tribe in Amazon has finally got access to internet connectivity, thanks to Elon Musk for this revolutionary step. But instead of getting exposed to new ideas, connecting to people across the border, and driving information from various sources, the tribe has got hooked up to porn.

Brazil's 2000-member Marubo tribe has been split after the arrival of the Tesla founder's Starlink service that kickstarted around nine months ago. In this step, Elon Musk helped connect the remote rainforest community along the Itui River to the web for the very first, instilling hope and excitement.

How did this pro turn into a con?

One of the elderly members of the tribe said that when the internet arrived, they were very happy but now things have become worse. Young people have become extremely lazy because of it and they are learning the ways of the white people.

Marubo community is a chaste tribe, even frowning over acts like kissing in public, but the arrival of this service with its super-fast connectivity to far-flung areas of the planet completely turned the tables, leading to critical changes in individual behaviours including their standards of decorum.

Porn addiction

The tribe member mentioned that many Marubo men had started forwarding porn videos in the group chats and this is further aggravating their sexual behaviour making it more aggressive. The elders are scared of the fact that sudden exposure to such kinky sex acts might make young men try it, further leading to other associated problems.

Anti-social behaviour

The internet has penetrated individual's life in such a way that they are even talking to their family members, devoting more time to using their mobile phones. All this has been possible because of Starlink which works by connecting antennas to 6,000 low-orbiting satellites. These antennas were donated to the tribe by American entrepreneur Allyson Reneau with a positive outlook that it would bring changes in the remote tribe and would help the tribe to quickly connect with people during emergencies, especially while facing deadly snake bites.

While the exposure to internet connectivity has brought some positive changes like helping the kids to explore diverse fields and get access to online educational materials, it has also impacted their daily routine. The tribe members fear that there lies a threat to the extinction of their traditional practises and cultural norms if the youth continues to be exposed to insensitive or explicit content.
