PM Trudeau led to safety after pro-Palestinian protesters encircle restaurant

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was escorted to safety after a pro-Palestinian protest broke out in front of a restaurant in Vancouver where he was dining, authorities said Wednesday. 

The protest saw the participation of around 250 pro-Palestinian supporters, who had surrounded the restaurant located in the city’s Chinatown district on Tuesday evening. They were seen waving flags and chanting for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

A statement from the police said that around 100 police persons assisted in controlling and dispersing the crowd, while the prime minister was escorted out of the restaurant." 

The protest also took a violent turn as one man was arrested after he punched a police officer and gouged her eyes as well. 

“The actions of the protesters, such as blocking the lane behind the restaurant caused a concern," Vancouver police Sergeant Steve Addison said in a news conference.

In a similar incident PM Trudeau was earlier disrupted when he was visiting the restaurant of celebrity chef Vikram Vij in Vancouver, as per media reports. 

The visuals from this incident show a group of protesters entering Vij’s restaurant and shouting at the PM, demanding Gaza ceasefire.

Trudeau was also rebuked by Israeli PM Netanyahu after he commented at an event that killing "of women, of children, of babies" in the Israel-Hamas war must stop on Tuesday.
