Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm wishes to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for a speedy recovery after the latter tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. PM Modi wrote on platform X, "My friend @Bundeskanzler, wishing you a speedy recovery from COVID-19. I pray for good health and well-being."

Chancellor Scholz announced his diagnosis on Twitter earlier that day, stating, "This is clearly not a surprise that I'm happy about. My current Covid-19 tests show two lines. If there are few symptoms, I expect it to be mild and initially just work from my desk."

The Chancellor's spokesperson confirmed that due to the diagnosis, planned face-to-face meetings with Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico scheduled for Tuesday, would be cancelled. However, Scholz would continue his official duties through telephone and videoconferences.

This is not the first time Scholz has contracted the virus. He previously tested positive in September 2022 and was isolated within the Federal Chancellery, citing its suitability for working remotely.

Strong diplomatic ties of India and Germany

India and Germany share close cooperation on numerous fronts, including trade, defence, and renewable energy. The Chancellor's speedy recovery will undoubtedly be welcomed by both nations as they continue to strengthen their bilateral ties.
