Syed Mustafa Kamal, a lawmaker from Pakistan, drew a comparison between India's moon landing expedition accomplishments and the unstable state of affairs in Karachi.

The Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader while speaking in Parliament said that when India landed on the Moon, Karachi was making headlines about children dying from falls into open gutters. While speaking further he said, "Today, the condition in Karachi is that, while the world is going to the moon, children are dying by falling into the gutter in Karachi. On the same screen, there is news that India landed on the moon, and just after two seconds, the news is that a child died in an open gutter in Karachi."

He highlighted the lack of facilities in Karachi, including the lack of fresh water and facilities for education. He highlighted some points citing a report which says that almost 70 lakh children in Karachi and over 2.6 crore children in Pakistan are not go to schools. There are a total of 48,000 schools, but a new report says that out of that 11,000 are ‘ghost schools’. “70 lakh children in Sindh don’t go to school, ..if we just focus on this, the leaders of the country shouldn't even get proper sleep,” he added.

In August of last year, India's Chandrayaan-3 lander created history by becoming the country's first spacecraft to land safely on the moon in August of 2023. Being the first country to step foot on the South Pole of the Moon, India made history.

Meanwhile, as it battles economic hardship, soaring inflation, and mounting debt, Pakistan is asking the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new loan program under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
