New Delhi: Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, stirred controversy once again by attempting to meddle in India's internal affairs during an OIC ambassadorial meeting in New York. Akram raised concerns over the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, urging the UN to intervene to protect the interests of Muslims in India.

Renewed efforts to internationalise Indian issues

In a letter addressed to Miguel Angel Moratinos, an official for the UN Alliance of Civilisations, Akram condemned the construction and consecration of the Ram Temple, alleging it posed a threat to the social, economic, and political well-being of Indian Muslims. This move by Pakistan echoes its historical attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue at the UN, which have been largely unsuccessful.

India's response

Indian government sources rebuked Pakistan's interference, asserting that Pakistan has no jurisdiction over Ayodhya's Ram Mandir. They emphasised India's robust judicial system, highlighting the extensive legal proceedings that preceded the construction of the temple. The involvement of multiple judges, including minority representation, in the verdict underscores the transparency and impartiality of India's judiciary.

India's commitment to religious freedom

India has a long-standing tradition of religious tolerance and inclusivity, providing space for all religions to coexist peacefully. The celebrations surrounding the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflect India's respect for religious diversity and harmony.

Pakistan's attempts to interfere in India's internal affairs, particularly regarding religious matters, have been met with strong opposition from Indian officials. India reaffirms its commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all its citizens, regardless of religious affiliation. As tensions persist between the two nations, India remains steadfast in safeguarding its sovereignty and national interests.
