New Delhi: Pakistan's track and field star Arshad Nadeem has captivated the nation with his remarkable achievement of securing an Olympic gold medal, breaking a 32-year drought for the country at the Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old athlete made headlines with a world-record javelin throw of 92.97 meters in the men’s javelin final, securing his place in history. However, his recent association with Harris Dhar, a leader of the UN-designated terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, has sparked controversy, drawing criticism from a segment of netizens.

Despite the controversy, Nadeem’s achievement has been widely celebrated in Pakistan. Upon his return to Lahore, he was greeted with a hero’s welcome at the airport, and the government organized a victory parade in his honor. In recognition of his historic performance, Nadeem is set to receive Pakistan’s highest civilian award, along with a cash prize of PKR 153 million and a gold crown.

Nadeem Confident in His Abilities: "I Was Even Confident of Throwing Beyond 92.97m"

Following his victory, Nadeem expressed his gratitude to those who supported him, attributing his success to his fitness and dedication. He also vowed to continue working hard to break his own record in the future. Nadeem said in a media interview, "I am thankful to the nation. Everyone prayed for me, and I was hopeful of doing well. Over the years, I got a knee injury, recovered, and worked hard on my fitness. I was even confident of throwing beyond 92.97 m, but that throw was enough for me to get the gold. I will continue to work hard and give my best in the days and months to come. I am planning to throw beyond this mark as well."

Despite the swirling controversy, Nadeem’s sportsmanship remains evident, as he and his Indian counterpart, Neeraj Chopra, who threw a best of 89.35 meters, continue to share mutual respect and camaraderie.
