In a big blow to former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, the Pakistan government has asked for the ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for alleged anti-state activities. The information was shared by Pakistan’s Information Minister Attar Tarar on Monday, according to Dawn.

While addressing a press conference on Monday, Tarar, emphasized the necessity of moving the country forward without PTI’s presence while citing ‘credible evidences’. “The federal government has decided to ban PTI,” he said.

He further asserted that the government intends to file a review petition with the Supreme Court of Pakistan challenging the recent ruling, which was in favour of PTI’s eligibility for reserved seats for women and minority.

Major setback for Imran Khan

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is facing the setback when he has been jailed for nearly a year, and his supporters believe that this move as a direct attempt to undermine their political influence and silence opposition.

Reason of ban

The government's decision to ban PTI stems from allegations of legal and regulatory violations by the party. However, PTI leaders and supporters have condemned the move, arguing that it is an effort to weaken their political power and suppress dissent.

Meanwhile, responding to the same, the PTI officials said that the puppet government of Pakistan is daydreaming of banning the PTI. Taking it to official X handle, Tehreek-e-Insaf mentioned, “Those who banned Tehreek-e-Insaf would have at least read the law before holding a press conference. Under this law, would you have approached the Supreme Court first?”

Here, it is important to note that this development adds to the already tense political atmosphere in Pakistan, with potential implications for the country's democratic processes and stability.
