There was a fatal attack on a Pakistani army convoy in Balochistan on Sunday, in which at least seven soldiers were killed and 21 other soldiers were wounded. The convoy of seven buses and two vehicles was moving from Quetta to Taftan when it was attacked fiercely.
Official sources have revealed that the attackers used an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPG) in targeting the convoy. A bus was exploded in a huge explosion in a suspected suicide attack, and another was directly hit by an RPG. Retaliation by the Pakistani army saw helicopters carrying the injured and drone monitoring started to sweep the region to secure it.
Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) took responsibility for the attack and said their "Majeed Brigade" had carried out a suicide attack on RCD Highway in Nushki. In a formal release, BLA stated, "Our fidayeen unit attacked a Pakistani military convoy with a suicide explosion."
In addition, the group claimed that its "Fateh Unit" ambushed a second bus and murdered all the soldiers it was carrying, bringing the total death toll to 90. Again, this version far surpasses the death toll reported by Pakistani officials.
The Pakistani military launched a massive counter-operation in the region following the attack. Search operations and aerial raids have been conducted to identify the perpetrators and stop further incidents. Security personnel are put on high alert, and emergency procedures are activated to increase surveillance and guarding at vulnerable points.
The attack is a significant escalation of hostilities in Balochistan, a province frequently plagued by separatist insurgency and militant unrest. Authorities are still investigating the attack and boosting security in the regions.
