Pakistan General Elections 2024: Imran Khan casts vote through postal ballot

The jail administration only permitted prisoners who possessed legitimate computerized national identity cards (CNICs) to cast vote in Pakistan General Elections.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other political figures who are presently behind bars have voted via postal ballot from Adiala Jail when voting began on Thursday, according to the reports.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the former foreign minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the former chief minister of Punjab, Sheikh Rashid, the head of the Awami Muslim League, and Fawad Chaudhry, the former information minister, are among the other leaders who have successfully cast mail-in ballots.

According to the sources, the jail administration only permitted prisoners who possessed legitimate computerized national identity cards (CNICs) to cast ballots. The vast majority of the inmates did not have the original CNIC, which was the cause of the low attendance.

Meanwhile, Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan's wife was unable to vote as she was convicted and arrested after the completion of the postal voting process.

PML-N leader & former PM Nawaz Sharif also cast his votes in Lahore.

Suspension of Mobile services 

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry on Thursday announced the temporary suspension of mobile services across Pakistan, according to the sources. The decision has been taken keeping the need to safeguard against potential security threats.

According to sources, the move has been taken in the wake of recent terrorist incidents that have claimed precious lives and disrupted the security environment throughout the country.
