Pakistan: Ex-PM Imran Khan to appear before the court in the Al-Qadir trust case today

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is scheduled to have his bail request in the Al Qadir Trust case heard by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday because his prior bail, which was granted two weeks ago, has since expired.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 2 PM, according to the sources.

On May 12, the court issued a prohibiting order to the officials from detaining the PTI head in several cases, including unreported ones, recorded across the nation until May 15. The judge also extended the ban on the arrest until May 31 during the upcoming hearing.

Notably, the investigation was launched by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and others for the alleged gain of hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, which reportedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, registered the Trust for Al-Qadir University Project on December 26, 2019, with funds given to the government by the British National Crime Agency (NCA) totalling PKR 60 billion (190 million pounds) at the time, according to the charges.

According to the sources, the hearing in the two cases is scheduled for 2 pm on Wednesday, in which the court will hear the bail petitions of Imran Khan, along with the concerning cases for the incidents of violence and violation of section 144 during a rally held in Islamabad on May 9.

It was also learnt that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recommended placing the name of Bushra Bibi, the former prime minister’s wife name on the Exit Control List (ECL) in the same case for which a letter will be penned to the interior ministry. Notably, Imran Khan was also placed on ECL after the request for approval from the federal cabinet.
