After days of negotiations, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have reached an agreement to form coalition government in Pakistan

At a joint press conference held late on Tuesday night at Zardari House Islamabad, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, 72, is scheduled to take on the position of prime minister once more. At the same time, Asif Zardari, the 68-year-old co-chairman of the PPP is expected to be the President again.

As the cash-strapped nation faced a hung Parliament following the February 8 elections, Bilawal believed that the news of the political alliance with the PML-N to form a coalition government would prompt a good response from the market.

Speaking at the event, Shehbaz Sharif while speaking at the conference praised the leaders of both the parties for the successful outcome of the negotiations and declared that his PML-N now has the ‘required numbers’ with the PPP to be in a position to form the next government.

Two major parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), have agreed to form a coalition government. This announcement follows days of negotiations and political drama after the February 8 vote, where no single party gained a clear majority.

Following the polls on February 8, the PTI-backed independent candidates held the most seats in the National Assembly (92) and were followed by the PPP (54), the PML-N (79), and the PTI (92).

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) allied with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) to ensure it receives the necessary number of members in the legislatures while parties dealing over the formation of the government, as per reports.

The PPP chief, however, informed reporters that the SIC lacked the necessary numbers to establish the next Central administration.

Jailed Imran Khan calls it 'mother of all rigging'

Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), emerged as the largest party in the elections but fell short of a majority. Khan has accused the current process of being rigged and has staged protests against the formation of the coalition government.

In a message from jail, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the recent elections on February 8 were marred by the "mother of all riggings," both before and after the polls, as per reports.

After meeting him at Adiala Jail on Wednesday, Aleema Khan, Imran's sister, delivered his message, characterizing the election process as the center of extensive manipulation.
