Pakistan Elections 2024: Amidst reports of violence and disruptions during the voting process in Pakistan, the Election Commission has taken a significant decision to address the grievances of candidates and voters. With allegations of voting material being snatched and destroyed, the Election Commission of Pakistan has announced plans for re-polling at select polling stations.

Re-Polling Date Set

The re-election process is slated to take place on February 15, coinciding with the ongoing vote counting following the elections held on February 8. The Election Commission has identified specific polling stations where re-polling will be conducted to ensure fairness and integrity in the electoral process.

Polling Stations Under Scrutiny

  1. NA-88 Khushab-II (Punjab): Violent clashes marred the voting process here on February 8, leading to reports of burning of voting material. To address the situation, re-polling will be conducted at 26 polling stations in this constituency.

  2. PS-18 Ghotki-I (Sindh): Instances of individuals snatching voting material were reported during the voting process. As a corrective measure, re-polling has been scheduled at 2 polling stations in this area.

  3. PK-90 Kohat-I (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa): Following the destruction of polling material by terrorists, the Election Commission has ordered re-polling at 25 polling stations in this constituency.

Additionally, in response to complaints of vandalism at 1 polling station in NA-242 Karachi Kemari-I (Sindh), the Regional Election Commissioner has been tasked with investigating the matter and submitting a report within 3 days.

Election Results Overview

As the vote counting progresses, preliminary results indicate a significant presence of independent candidates, many of whom are aligned with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Currently, out of 265 seats, results have been declared for 255 seats. Independent candidates supporting Imran Khan's PTI have secured 92 seats, followed by PML-N with 73 seats and PPP with 54 seats. However, the final results are yet to be announced, and the political landscape remains fluid.

Amidst the ongoing electoral process, the decision to conduct re-polling reflects the Election Commission's commitment to upholding the democratic principles of fairness and transparency in Pakistan's electoral system.
