At least 25 people killed and over 40 others injured in two separate explosions targeting election candidates in Balochistan, just a day before general elections.

The attack has come on the eve of elections, when the political parties have wrapped up their campaigning.

The gas-rich province, bordering Afghanistan and Iran has been dealing with this situation for more than 20 years. The insurgency was first motivated by demands for resource sharing but ultimately turned into an independence movement.

The Taliban from Pakistan and other extremist organizations are still heavily present in the area. The first incident happened at the Pishin district office of an independent candidate for election, which left 14 people dead. Then, in Qilla Saifullah, close to the Afghan border, there was another explosion that went after a Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) office. JUI is a religious group that is often the target of terrorist attacks. According to provincial officials, at least ten people were killed in this explosion.
