Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has once again made headlines by making controversial statements. At the first annual conference of overseas Pakistanis, he claimed that Pakistan is a "state like Medina, which is built on the foundation of the Kalma." During this, he also made provocative comments on issues like India, Hinduism, two-nation theory, Kashmir and Gaza.

A kingdom like Madina, built on the foundation of the Kalma - Munir
General Munir compared Pakistan to Medina. He said, "Till date, there are only two kingdoms in the history of humanity that were built on the foundation of the pen. The first kingdom was Taiba. Because Taiba was named by our Prophet. Its name in the Quran is Yathrib... today it is called Medina. And the second kingdom is yours (Pakistan), which Allah created 1300 years after that, on the foundation of the pen."

There are mainly six Kalmas, but the most important is the first Kalma (Kalma-e-Tayyiba): "La ilaha illallahu Muhammadur Rasulullah"

Mention of two nation theory, targetting Hindus
Munir appealed to the people of Pakistan, “Please never forget this story of Pakistan. Please pass it on to your next generation so that they can feel their bond with Pakistan. It should never weaken, whether it is the third generation, fourth generation or fifth generation. They should know what Pakistan is for them.” He said, “Our elders felt that we are different from Hindus in every way… We are different from Hindus in every possible aspect of life. Our faith is different, our customs are different, our traditions are different, our thinking is different, our ambitions are different. This was the foundation of the two-nation theory. Pakistan was created on the basis of this thinking. We are not one, but two nations.”

Jackal threat on Kashmir
Gen Munir attacked India over Kashmir and claimed that Pakistan will never allow Kashmir to separate. "No force can separate Kashmir from Pakistan," he said. The statement came at a time when India has termed Pakistan's repeated unnecessary comments on Kashmir at the United Nations as "illegitimate". India's Permanent Representative, Ambassador Paravathaneni Harish, had made it clear at the UN Security Council last month that Jammu and Kashmir "was, is and will always remain an integral part of India."
