New Delhi: The Pakistani army successfully prevented a significant attack in Baluchistan's Mach area on Tuesday, saving the day and averting potential casualties. Jan Achakzai, the provincial interim information minister, shared the development via social media.

Militant attack foiled

Jan Achakzai disclosed the Pakistani army's successful intervention in thwarting three simultaneous militant assaults in the Mach region of Balochistan. The militants, allegedly associated with the separatist faction Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), led by Aslam Baloch alias Achu, were compelled to withdraw without causing harm to individuals or infrastructure.

Achakzai's statement on social media read, "In Mach, the security forces have successfully thwarted three coordinated attacks carried out by terrorists affiliated with the Aslam Acho group. Fortunately, no damage was inflicted on any installations, and there were no casualties among our security forces. The terrorists have now retreated, and our security forces are currently in pursuit."

Rapid response, vigilance

Amidst reports of rocket fire from the hilly area in Macch, Balochistan, the Mach Central Jail Superintendent, Saleem Tareen, confirmed the safety of the jail's personnel and detainees. Surrounding security forces remained on high alert to counter any potential threats.

Emergency measures were promptly initiated in Quetta and Mach hospitals, with medical staff placed on standby for immediate response. Additionally, hospital security was intensified to ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel.

Confronting militant actions

Two individuals injured during the attacks were transported to a trauma centre in Quetta for treatment, with ambulances dispatched from Quetta to aid in Mach. The militant group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the assaults, underscoring their continued pursuit of Balochistan's independence through violent means.

These developments coincide with Pakistan's preparations for the upcoming general elections slated for February 8. In January, Pakistan conducted cross-border strikes against "militant targets" in Iran, targeting hideouts linked to groups such as the BLA, in an operation codenamed 'Marg Bar Sarmachar'.
