Since this powerful earthquake, hundreds of earthquakes have occurred in Taiwan.
Hualien's fire department said that a hotel was badly damaged after the earthquake on April 3, and it has tilted further after the earthquake that occurred last night. However, the department also informed that at present the hotel was not being operated in that building.
Another building that collapsed this morning was the Tongshuai Building which was already set for demolition, so no one was inside. The Fukai Hotel was also empty and had ceased operations, so there were not fatalities. #taiwan #hualien #earthquake #aftershock pic.twitter.com/sTRcNQyiV6

Taiwan is a country situated at the junction of two tectonic plates, which is considered sensitive to earthquakes. In 2016, more than 100 people were killed in an earthquake in Southern Taiwan in 2016. Earlier in 1999, more than 2,000 people were killed in an earthquake of 7.3 magnitude.
Earthquakes occur many times in the world, but the intensity of quakes is less. The National Earthquake Information Center records about 20,000 earthquakes every year. Out of these, 100 earthquakes are such which cause more damage. The longest lasting earthquake in history occurred in the Indian Ocean in 2004. This earthquake lasted for 10 minutes.
