Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is facing backlash after posting an outdated photo on social media to celebrate Arshad Nadeem's historic gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The image, shared on X (formerly Twitter), depicts Sharif presenting a cheque for PKR 1 million to Nadeem. Critics have accused the Prime Minister of using the occasion to show off rather than genuinely celebrating Nadeem’s achievement.

Historic Win for Arshad Nadeem

Arshad Nadeem delivered a remarkable performance in the men's javelin throw final, which took place on Thursday. Nadeem, 27, set a new world record with a throw of 92.97 meters. This achievement not only secured him the gold medal but also marked Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold in athletics. His performance outshone defending champion Neeraj Chopra from India, who managed a best throw of 89.45 meters.

Public Reaction and Criticism

The backlash against Sharif stems from his choice to post a dated photo celebrating Nadeem’s victory instead of focusing on the athlete’s remarkable achievement. Many social media users have criticized the Prime Minister for appearing insincere and opportunistic, using the moment to draw attention to himself rather than honoring Nadeem’s groundbreaking success.

Responding to the tweet, one of the users on social media mentions, “Just look at their  mentality ! Why on earth will you upload a picture giving him a check of Rs 1mn ! 🤦🏻‍♂️ classless and clueless….”

Another user called Prime Minister ‘Selfish’

The other one criticized him saying that his little cheque bought the gold medal.
