Academy Award winner filmmaker Quentin Tarantino made a surprise visit to Israel to stand in solidarity with Israel and also motivate the Israel Defense Forces amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Tarantino visited an Israeli military base and posed for pictures with the troops in front of an aeroplane and the Israeli flag.

The picture was shared on ‘X’ by the official page of the Israel War Room with a caption that read “Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino visits an Israeli base in southern Israel to boost IDF morale.”

Quentin Tarantino in Israel

The ‘Shape of Water’ director had been living in Tel Aviv with his Israeli musician wife Daniella Pick, and two children for the last two years. In an interview in 2021, Tarantino compared Tel Aviv with Los Angeles in the US and called it a smaller version of the Hollywood city, with ”magnificent restaurants, cool bars, cool clubs.”

Israel-Hamas conflict

Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel by firing thousands of rockets towards Israel on Saturday, October 7. Following this Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a full-fledged war against Hamas.

The Hamas gunmen have claimed the lives of more than 1300 Israelis while more than 2300 Gaza residents lost their lives in the retaliatory air strikes by Israel. The country’s military has also carried out a series of ground attacks on Gaza and is now readying for a looming Gaza ground invasion aimed at destroying Hamas.

IDF asks Gaza residents to evacuate

Meanwhile, the Israel Defence (IDF) Forces have given a time period of three hours to move from North Gaza to the southern part of the territory saying that a safe corridor will be open during this time. In a post on X, the IDF said they will not launch any operation on this corridor from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Residents of Gaza City and northern Gaza, in the past days, we’ve urged you to relocate to the southern area for your safety. We want to inform you that the IDF will not carry out any operations along this route from 10 pm to 1 pm,” the Israeli military said.

Apart from Tarantino, many Hollywood celebrities including Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner and Yara Shahidi have expressed their grief for the victims killed amid the conflict.
