New Delhi: Hamza bin Laden, the son of infamous terrorist Osama bin Laden, is reportedly alive and at the helm of Al Qaeda, according to new intelligence reports. Once thought to be killed in a U.S. airstrike, Hamza is now said to be operating from Afghanistan, commanding the terror organization alongside his brother, Abdullah bin Laden. His re-emergence has sparked concerns about Al Qaeda's resurgence and future threats.

Intelligence reports confirm Hamza’s leadership

New Delhi: As per intelligence sources cited by The Mirror, Hamza bin Laden, who was previously believed to have been eliminated in 2019, is now leading Al Qaeda from an undisclosed location in Afghanistan. The publication highlights that both Hamza and Abdullah bin Laden have taken control of the group, aiming to restore its power in the region.

Hamza, often referred to as the "crown prince of terror," is believed to be coordinating operations from northern Afghanistan, under the watchful protection of 450 armed snipers. Reports from the National Mobilisation Front (NMF), an anti-Taliban military faction, have revealed his activities and those of his loyalists, warning of Al Qaeda’s regrouping under his leadership.

NMF uncovers Hamza’s hideout

The NMF disclosed that Hamza has been relocated to the Dara Abdullah Khel district in Panjshir, a strategic area in northern Afghanistan. "Hamza bin Laden has been moved to Dara Abdullah Khel, where 450 Arabs and Pakistanis are guarding him," the report detailed. It also warned that "under his command, Al Qaeda is regrouping and preparing for future attacks on Western targets." This intelligence challenges previous claims of Hamza’s death, suggesting that he is actively working with Al Qaeda operatives to orchestrate new assaults.

Since the Taliban's takeover of Kabul in 2021, Afghanistan has reportedly become a central training ground for numerous terrorist factions. The NMF's insights suggest that Al Qaeda is not only rebuilding but may also be preparing to strike Western nations, heightening global security concerns.

Conflicting reports of Hamza’s death

In 2019, it was widely believed that Hamza bin Laden had been killed in a U.S. airstrike, following the release of audio and video messages in which he urged attacks on the U.S. and its allies. However, the NMF’s revelations dispute these earlier reports, pointing to his continued influence in Al Qaeda’s leadership.

Previously, Hamza was known to work closely with Ayman al-Zawahiri, who succeeded his father, Osama bin Laden, as Al Qaeda's leader after Osama’s death in 2011. Al-Zawahiri himself was reportedly killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2022, raising questions about the future of Al Qaeda’s leadership structure.

Who is Hamza Bin Laden?

Hamza bin Laden, born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is the son of Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11, 2001, attacks in the U.S., which claimed nearly 3,000 lives. After his father's death during a U.S. Special Forces raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in 2011, Hamza was named a global terrorist by the U.S.

Though he spent a portion of his life under house arrest in Iran with his mother, new intelligence suggests that Hamza has now relocated to Afghanistan, where he is allegedly preparing Al Qaeda for future operations. His reappearance as the head of the terror network raises concerns about a new wave of extremist activity in the region and beyond.
