India has strongly rejected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent remarks on Kashmir, asserting that they are unwarranted and unacceptable, while lodging a formal protest with the Turkish envoy.

Erdogan's Comments Spark Controversy

During his visit to Pakistan, President Erdogan called for dialogue between India and Pakistan regarding the Kashmir issue, suggesting it should be resolved according to UN resolutions. His comments marked a significant departure from his previous silence on the matter, which had not been publicly addressed by him for nearly two years. The Indian government viewed this as an unwelcome intrusion into its internal affairs, leading to a swift response from New Delhi.

India's Firm Stance on Territorial Integrity

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and that no other country has the right to comment on its internal matters. He stated, "We reject such objectionable comments on matters which are internal to India," reiterating India's commitment to its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Jaiswal also highlighted the need for Erdogan to focus on Pakistan's support for cross-border terrorism instead of commenting on India's internal affairs.

Protest Lodged with Turkish Ambassador

In light of Erdogan's remarks, India lodged a strong protest with the Turkish ambassador in Delhi. The Indian government expressed its dissatisfaction with Turkey's stance and called for a more responsible approach regarding sensitive issues like Kashmir. The MEA spokesperson pointed out that instead of addressing India's concerns, it would have been more appropriate for Erdogan to condemn Pakistan's use of cross-border terrorism against India.

Pakistan's Narrative and Turkey's Role

Erdogan's comments were seen as an attempt to strengthen Turkey's support for Pakistan, which has been courting Ankara to bolster its narrative on Kashmir. The Indian government remains firm in its position that the Kashmir issue is strictly bilateral and should not be internationalized. This incident highlights the complex dynamics of international relations in South Asia, where historical grievances continue to influence diplomatic interactions.

Future Implications for Indo-Turkish Relations

The fallout from Erdogan's remarks could have implications for India-Turkey relations moving forward. As both countries navigate their diplomatic ties, India's strong response underscores its sensitivity towards external comments on domestic issues. The situation calls for careful diplomacy as both nations work to balance their interests while addressing regional challenges.
