Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor of India, visited Oman on an official visit on Monday, to discuss bilateral cooperation with the country’s top leadership. The NSA met with Hatham Bin Tarik, the Sultan of Oman, and other top leaders.

Doval met with Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik in the Al-Baraka Palace in Muscat and conveyed a personal message of greeting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik. He passed on a written message from the PM addressed to the Sultan that addressed the deepening of the ties between the two partner countries.

Ajit Doval meets with Foreign Minister and Royal Office Minister

Along with meeting the Sultan, NSA Ajit Doval also had meetings with General Sultan bin Mohammad al Numani, Minister of the Royal Office, and Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister.

The topics discussed in the meetings were about strengthening bilateral cooperation in subjects ranging from economic and technological developments to regional security and the military sphere.

The Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr, congratulated India for successfully hosting the G20 meetings in the country.

The latest visit by the NSA to Oman signals a fresh effort by New Delhi to court the Middle Eastern country. India and Oman have enjoyed a strong relationship since diplomatic relations were established in 1955, and Oman’s status was upgraded to ‘Strategic Partner’ in 2008. Oman is one of the countries invited by India as guests to the G20 proceedings this year. This is the second visit by an Indian diplomat after PM Modi’s 2018 visit to the Gulf state.
