New Delhi: Elon Musk, the world's richest person and CEO of SpaceX, injected a plea for peace into the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

Sharing a photo of a rocket on his X (formerly Twitter) platform, Musk wrote, "We should send rockets not at each other, but rather to the stars." This message came just over an hour after reports surfaced of an Israeli airstrike on an Iranian airport, further fueling anxieties of a full-blown war.

Musk's vested interets in peaceful skies

SpaceX, a California-based aerospace manufacturer and satellite internet provider helmed by Musk, has a vested interest in peaceful skies. The company recently secured a license to operate its Starlink internet network in Israel and parts of the Gaza Strip. Notably, the Israeli government authorized Starlink services for a field hospital in Gaza, highlighting its potential for humanitarian applications.

Musk's attempt for a peaceful Middle-East

This stance on peacemaking isn't Musk's first foray into the complex geopolitical landscape of the Middle East. Last November, he embarked on a two-day visit to Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally toured him through a kibbutz devastated by a Hamas attack the previous month.

Following his Israeli visit, Hamas extended an invitation to Musk to witness the destruction caused by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. This invitation underscored the deep divisions within the region.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which erupted in October 2023, has cast a long shadow over the region. Musk's call for a shift in focus from earthly conflicts to celestial exploration offers a glimmer of hope for a more peaceful future.
