New Delhi: In a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, Telegram founder Pavel Durov stunned Carlson with his minimalistic lifestyle and financial choices. Known for his visionary approach to secure messaging, Durov revealed that, despite having a considerable fortune, material wealth and possessions are not his priorities.

Pavel Durov a minimalist billionaire

Durov disclosed that he has a few hundred million dollars in his bank account or in Bitcoin, which has been untouched for over a decade. However, what truly shocked Carlson was Durov’s declaration that he owns no real estate, jets, or yachts, and has no desire for these luxuries. "I don't think this lifestyle is for me," Durov stated, emphasizing his preference to focus on Telegram rather than indulging in material assets.

Freedom as a priority

When pressed by Carlson on why he chooses not to own any significant assets, Durov's response was telling: "My number one priority in life is my freedom." For Durov, ownership of physical assets would tie him down to a location, something he views as a restriction on his personal freedom. While he respects those who choose to invest in real estate, Durov personally avoids it, preferring to maintain his focus on Telegram. Watch.

Luxuries considered as distractions

Durov also expressed concern that owning luxury items would be a distraction from his work. "If I buy a house or a jet, I would be spending time trying to make it nice. This will require a lot of time and effort," he explained, underscoring his commitment to staying laser-focused on developing and improving Telegram.
