New Delhi: President Joe Biden strongly condemned the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday, labeling the attack as antithetical to American values and emphasizing the need for unity amidst heightened political tensions. The incident unfolded where a suspected shooter opened fire before being fatally shot by law enforcement personnel.

What President Biden said?

In response to the assassination attempt, President Biden announced an independent review of national security protocols at the Pennsylvania rally to comprehensively assess the circumstances surrounding the attack.

"We cannot tolerate violence of any kind in this country. An assassination attempt goes against everything we stand for as a nation – everything," President Biden asserted during remarks delivered from the White House.

Thorough review of security measures

President Biden also directed the Secret Service to conduct a thorough review of security measures ahead of the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump is set to be formally nominated as the party's presidential candidate for the November 5 election.

"Unity is our greatest challenge, but also our greatest necessity right now – unity. We can debate and disagree, but we must never lose sight of our identity as Americans," President Biden emphasized.

Pledged a swift and thorough inquiry

Following a briefing on the ongoing investigation into the incident, President Biden pledged a swift and thorough inquiry, cautioning against premature conclusions regarding the motives or affiliations of the perpetrator. As part of his response to the incident, President Biden announced plans to address the nation later on Sunday night, focusing on the imperative of national unity amidst a divisive election season. "I had a brief but positive conversation with President Trump, and I am sincerely grateful that he is doing well and in recovery," President Biden added, underscoring a moment of bipartisan solidarity in the wake of the assassination attempt. The nation remains on edge as investigations continue into the motives behind the attack, with both political camps urging restraint and a focus on national unity in the face of escalating tensions.
