New Delhi: Hamas is firm on its demand that ongoing Gaza truce talks should focus on implementing an already discussed deal with Israel rather than starting negotiations afresh, an official said on Tuesday. This comes after Israeli airstrikes killed at least 19 Palestinians in the enclave, escalating tensions further.

Despite the violence, the United States announced on Monday that peace talks scheduled for Thursday are still expected to proceed, with hopes of reaching a ceasefire agreement. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is reportedly set to depart on Tuesday for crucial discussions in Qatar, Egypt, and Israel, according to Axios.

Israel takes action diffrent ways

The Israeli government confirmed it would send a delegation to the Thursday talks. However, Hamas, the Palestinian militant group governing Gaza before the current conflict, insists on a workable plan to implement a previously accepted proposal rather than engaging in more talks. "What is needed is the implementation, not more negotiation," a Hamas official told Reuters, dismissing reports suggesting the group was willing to negotiate further.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continued to wreak havoc in Gaza. Medics reported that 19 Palestinians were killed in multiple strikes across the central and southern Gaza Strip. Among the victims were a mother and her newborn twins in Deir Al-Balah. The airstrikes also targeted Al-Bureij and Al-Maghazi camps, as well as Rafah and Sheikh Radwan in Gaza City.

Hamas situation amid war

As the conflict intensifies, Hamas is calling for a deal to end the war, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the conflict will only cease when Hamas is eradicated. The ongoing violence has already claimed nearly 40,000 Palestinian lives, according to the Palestinian health ministry, and more than 300 Israeli soldiers have been killed.
