Former prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern announced on Friday that she will write a book about leadership and it will be published worldwide, after five years in charge of the Pacific nation.

Ex-PM Ardern to write a book on leadership

In an Instagram post, the ex-PM said that she would eschew the usual political tell-all in favour of something that would have inspired her ‘14-year-old self.’

Earlier, in January, Ardern tendered her resignation from her top post, which left others in shock. Announcing her retirement, Ardern said that she no longer has ‘enough in the tank’ to continue.

Ardern, after the resignation, became quite unpopular in New Zealand, even when she won widespread acclaim overseas.

However, she still has millions of followers on her social media accounts and is tipped by some as a future leader at the UN (United Nations) after six long months out of office.

The former prime minister’s tenure included managing responses to a right-wing terror attack in Christchurch, a deadly volcanic eruption, and the Covid-19 pandemic, which closed New Zealand’s borders for two years.

What will be the book all about?

Talking about her book, she insisted that she did not want to write “a book that hauled over the internal politics of the last five years.” Instead, the former premier plans to write about how to be ‘your own kind of leader.’

She said, “I hope when it’s done, it’s the kind of book that would have made a difference to my 14-year-old self.”

No specific date of release decided

Despite revealing her plans for the book, there is currently no set release date, she said.

The project has been picked up by publishing houses Penguin, Macmillan, and Crown — making it available in the United States, as well as Australia, Britain, and New Zealand.

Moreover, Ardern is due to take up dual fellowships at Harvard University later this year.
