Republican House Speaker  Mike Johnson called for a resolution supporting Israel right after taking office the US Houseof Representatives leader on Wednesday. This is the first action Johnspn has taken since he was appointed for this post.

“The first bill I'm going to bring to this floor in a little while will be in support of our dear friend Israel and we are overdue in getting that done," Johnson said as he accepted the speaker position.

Israel resolution in US House

The resolution swept the floor with an overwhelming  412 to 10 backing with six members voting "present.” This resolution reflected the long lasting support the Congress has had for the Israel. The non-binding measure reaffirms U.S. commitment to Israel and calls on Hamas to immediately cease attacks and release every hostage.

Following the removal of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on October 3, the House remained without a speaker for more than three weeks. Eight Republicans joined Democrats to oust Kevin McCarthy, the first time a U.S. speaker has been removed from the position. Finally after days of chaos in the US House, Republican Mike Johnson of Louisiana was elected 56th US House Speaker on Wednesday .

While the candidates had diverse political backgrounds, they all shared one characteristic -- they were all men. No Republican woman entered the race for the position, as per media reports.
