The death toll has risen to 112, while 79 people remain missing, including 16 in the Kathmandu Valley. Rescue teams have saved over 3,000 people so far, but transportation remains crippled, with 63 locations across the country blocking major highways.Emergency measures being takenIn response to the disaster, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh convened an emergency meeting with key ministers, including the Home Minister and Home Secretary. He has ordered accelerated search and rescue operations across the affected regions. As a precaution, the government has also shut down schools for three days and suspended all ongoing examinations.Kathmandu, one of the hardest-hit areas, experienced a citywide power outage as the floods damaged the main transmission line. Though power was restored later in the day, the city remains isolated due to landslides blocking all major access points. According to police reports, 226 homes have been submerged in the capital. The Bihar government has issued a flood alert for the entire northern region, warning of potential overflow from rivers such as the Gandak, Kosi, Mahananda, and others within the next 48 hours.Already, the heavy release of water from rivers like the Gandak, Kosi, and Bagmati has triggered flooding in 13 districts of Bihar, affecting more than 141,000 people. The most impacted districts include West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Gopalganj, Siwan, Sitamarhi, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, Supaul, Madhepura, Muzaffarpur, and Madhubani. State agencies have launched rescue and relief operations to provide assistance to those affected by the disaster.
