Moscow tragedy: 40 killed, more than 100 injured after gunmen attack concert hall

According to reports from news agency Reuters citing Russian media, a tragic incident unfolded near Moscow as at least 40 individuals lost their lives and over 100 sustained injuries after three assailants opened fire and set off explosives at a concert hall on Friday.

Video clips circulating on Russian social media platforms captured the chaotic scene as a large crowd of concert attendees tried to escape the venue while gunshots echoed in the background. Distressing footage also showed individuals lying motionless in pools of blood outside the hall.

Russian media sources indicated that authorities are treating the incident as a terrorist attack and have launched investigations into the matter. Although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, it is evident that several people were wounded, with reports suggesting fatalities among the victims.

"Police were working at the scene," stated RIA, Russia's state news agency, alluding to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in response to the tragic event. Additionally, the TASS state news agency reported an explosion and subsequent fire within the building where the shooting occurred, adding to the complexity and severity of the situation. 

Visuals shared by the Kommersant newspaper displayed thick plumes of smoke rising from the concert venue, further underscoring the severity of the incident.
