The violence erupted when gunmen supporting ousted President Bashar al-Assad began attacking security checkpoints. In retaliation, Syrian security forces bombed from helicopters. According to the report of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), this bloody clash saw a violent encounter between security personnel and pro-Assad fighters. During this conflict, many attackers were captured, while some were seriously injured. This ongoing violence in the Jableh area of ​​Latakia has raised questions about the security system.

How did the clash start?

According to SOHR, the violence began when fighters affiliated with former Assad regime commander Suheil al-Hassan attacked security forces patrols and checkpoints. In response to this attack, government security forces attacked a village in Latakia with helicopters. Earlier reports put the death toll at 48, but later the figure rose to more than 70.

Meanwhile, reports are claiming that Alawite community leaders have accused the government of targeting peaceful protesters during helicopter attacks.
