In a miraculous case, a 13-year-old boy, Wyatt Kauffman from North Dakota has survived after slipping and falling almost 100 feet down at the US’s Grand Canyon’s North Rim during a family trip last week.
It took nearly two hours for the emergency crew to pull up the stranded boy safely on Tuesday after falling off a ledge at one of the popular tourist attractions sit’s North Rim, according to the media reports.
After rescuing Wyatt, he was then airlifted to a hospital immediately with nine broken bones, vertebrae and a ruptured spleen, a collapsed lung, a concussion, a broken hand and a dislocated finger.
Days after this incident, Wyatt opened up about the incident that happened to him and told the media, “I was up on the ledge and was moving out of the way so other people could take a picture.”
“I squatted down and was holding onto a rock. I only had one hand on it,” the 13-year-old said.
He added, “It wasn’t that good of a grip. It was kind of pushing me back. I lost my grip and started to fall back.”
Wyatt said that he had been squatting down and holding onto a rock with one hand when he lost his grip and started to fall back.
Further, he said, “After the fall, I don’t remember anything after that.”
“I just remember somewhat waking up and being in the back of an ambulance and a helicopter and getting on a plane and getting here,” he concluded.
As per the media reports, the boy was pulled to safety by a team from Grand Canyon National Park.
Meanwhile, Wyatt’s father, Brian Kauffman, who was home in North Dakota at the time of the accident, has extended his gratitude towards the rescue team for pulling his son alive. He said, “We’re extremely grateful for the work of everyone.”
Moreover, Brian Kauffman said, “We’re just lucky we’re bringing our kid home in a car in the front seat instead of in a box.”
