On Thursday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma instructed officials from the state government to evacuate students from Meghalaya who are currently studying in educational institutions located in the violence-affected state of Manipur.

The chief minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, held a meeting with senior officials to discuss the safety of Meghalaya students in Manipur, in response to reports of violence in the region.

According to a senior official, the chief minister emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety of all students from Meghalaya and instructed officials to develop an evacuation plan in case the situation requires it.

According to the official, there are more than 200 students from Meghalaya studying in Manipur, and the government plans to evacuate them by airlifting. Furthermore, the government is setting up a helpline number to assist the students or their families in case of any emergency.

The Manipur government has issued an order on Thursday that allows the police to use lethal force in “extreme cases” to control the escalating violence between tribals and the Meitei community, which has resulted in the displacement of more than 9,000 people from their villages.

To contain the violent clashes between the tribals and the majority Meitei community in Manipur, over 55 columns of the Army and Assam Rifles were deployed. This widespread rioting has resulted in the displacement of more than 9,000 people from their villages.
