New Delhi: Former President Donald Trump announced Ohio Republican Senator JD Vance as his vice presidential nominee during the party's convention in Milwaukee on Monday. She has a wealth of credentials and a deep connection to Indian values and culture. 

Indian-origin wife of VP nominee

Usha Chilukuri Vance, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was born in California to Indian immigrant parents and grew up in the suburbs of San Diego. She attended Mt Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos.

Impressive academic education and career

Usha pursued her BA in history from Yale University and earned an MPhil in early modern history from the University of Cambridge. At Yale Law School, she was the executive development editor of the Yale Law Journal and managing editor of the Yale Journal of Law and Technology. She also participated in the Supreme Court Advocacy Clinic and other legal clinics.

Supporter and campaigner

Usha met JD Vance at Yale Law School in 2013, where they bonded over organizing discussions on social decline in white America. They married in 2014 with a Hindu priest presiding over a separate ceremony and have three children: sons Ewan and Vivek, and daughter Mirabel. Usha has actively supported JD Vance in his political endeavors, including his Senate campaigns in 2016 and 2022.
