In the recent U.S. elections, former President Donald Trump reclaimed the White House, disappointing Indian Americans who hoped for Kamala Harris’s victory. Amidst the presidential race, however, another significant achievement has brought cheer to the Indian community: Saba Haider, originally from Ghaziabad, emerged victorious in the DuPage County Board elections, defeating Republican candidate Patti Gustin by a notable margin of 8,521 votes.

After a narrow defeat in 2022, Haider refused to step back, choosing instead to continue her journey in public service. Her persistence and commitment paid off, with the Democratic Party entrusting her once again—a trust she turned into success this time. Saba’s father shared his pride in her accomplishments, noting that politics runs in the family. "She’s talented and hardworking, and with everyone’s blessings, she has achieved this position," he said, reminiscing on her academic accolades in India, including a gold medal in her MSc from Aligarh Muslim University.

Saba’s family also expressed their pride in her achievements. Her mother, Mehzabeen Haider, runs a school for underprivileged children, and her brother Zeeshan Haider, who lives in Oman, conveyed his congratulations via video. Saba’s path in U.S. public service includes roles such as her appointment to the DuPage County Health Board, driven by her commitment to social causes.

For over 15 years, Saba has championed health and wellness initiatives, teaching yoga and leading programs on education, environment, and addiction prevention. She’s been instrumental in promoting International Yoga Day in Chicago and has organized workshops on Sanskrit and yoga practices, contributing significantly to community health.

Saba Haider’s inspiring journey from Ghaziabad to a U.S. public office is a moment of pride for her family and the Indian-American community.
