New Delhi: Matthew Perry, a renowned actor from the TV show "Friends," died in October 2023 at 54 from a ketamine overdose. Five individuals, including doctors, Perry's assistant, and alleged drug dealer Jasveen Sangha, were charged in connection with his death on August 15. Sangha has been arrested by law enforcement, according to the Associated Press. These charges are a significant breakthrough in the investigation into Perry's death. The case sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the actor's tragic passing.
Jasveen Sangha, a key figure in the investigation into Matthew Perry's death, has been identified in court filings as a major player in the ketamine trade, earning her the ominous nickname "Ketamine Queen." Furthermore, it has been revealed that Sangha's residence in North Hollywood served as a central distribution point for the ketamine that ultimately led to Perry's tragic overdose, suggesting a direct link between Sangha's illicit activities and the actor's untimely passing.
According to a report by the BBC, Jasveen Sangha, aged 41, has been charged with the illegal sale of 50 vials of ketamine, valued at approximately $11,000. The report highlights that Sangha was knowingly distributing a potentially deadly substance, putting lives at risk. Furthermore, US Attorney Martin Estrada publicly condemned Sangha's operations, describing her residence as a "drug-selling emporium" during a press conference, emphasizing the severity of her alleged crimes.
The federal indictment reveals that Jasveen Sangha, a dual citizen of the UK and US, was storing a large quantity of illicit substances, including methamphetamine, cocaine, and prescription drugs like Xanax, at her residence. Her illegal operations, which date back to at least June 2019, initially came under scrutiny after she was caught selling methamphetamine in a separate incident in March. A subsequent raid on her home uncovered a staggering amount of contraband, including 79 bottles of liquid ketamine and nearly 2,000 methamphetamine pills, exposing the full extent of her criminal activities. Furthermore, Sangha faces five additional charges for the actual sale of ketamine.
According to the Daily Mail, Jasveen Sangha's social media profile offered a glimpse into her opulent and extravagant lifestyle, revealing a stark contrast to her alleged illicit activities.
The autopsy report from December 2023 determined that Matthew Perry's death was directly caused by the acute effects of ketamine, which led to him losing consciousness and accidentally drowning in the hot tub at his Los Angeles residence. Additionally, the report identified contributing factors to his death, including coronary artery disease and the presence of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid addiction, which was also found in his system. These combined factors ultimately resulted in Perry's tragic passing.
Matthew Perry had openly spoken about his long history of struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, which spanned several decades, including during his time playing the iconic character Chandler Bing on the popular 1990s TV show 'Friends'. However, according to interviews referenced in his autopsy report, Perry had made significant progress in his recovery, achieving 19 months of sobriety without any known setbacks or relapses before his tragic death.
