As the presidential elections in the United States are approaching, former president Donald Trump has picked JD Vance as the candidate for vice president. The candidature of Vance was announced by Trump through his social media handle on Monday. The development comes after Trump survived the assassination bid during a campaign rally a couple of days back.

The fact that Vance, who was formerly among Trump's harshest critics, has now turned into one of the most passionate admirers of the former president's "Make America Great Again" agenda is noteworthy.

Here’s what Donald Trump said

JD Vance, a best-selling author

American politician, novelist, and venture entrepreneur JD Vance rose to national prominence in 2016 after publishing his memoir "Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis." His background in a low-income Appalachian family and his journey to Yale Law School are chronicled in this best-selling book, which was eventually made into a movie.

Background and Career

Born on August 2, 1984, James David Vance grew up in Middletown, Ohio. He completed his education at the Ohio State University (BA) and Yale Law School (JD).

Professional Career

During his career, Vance's memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," received significant attention for its insights into the struggles of working-class white Americans and the cultural and economic challenges facing them. Apart from this, he has worked in venture capital, particularly focusing on investments in Middle America. Not only this, he has also served in the Marine Corps.

After that, he worked for an investment firm in Silicon Valley before moving back to Ohio to start a nonprofit organization that would, according to him, seek to provide opioid addiction therapies that could be "scaled nationally." However, Our Ohio Renewal was closed after failing to fulfil its goal.

Politics

Vance entered the political arena, aligning with the Republican Party. He was elected to the United States Senate from Ohio in 2022. He is known for his conservative views and has been vocal on issues related to economic policy, social issues, and cultural identity. His positions often emphasize the need to address the concerns of the working class and rural Americans.

Trump critic is now a staunch ally

Vance portrayed Trump as "America's Hitler," "a moral disaster," and "a complete fraud" in the early years of his political career. But over the time, Vance changed his tone, much like many other Republicans who tried to be relevant in the Trump era. He claimed that Trump's administration had shown him to be incorrect, and he went on to become one of his staunchest supporters.

Nomination for Vice President

As of the current context, JD Vance's nomination for vice president is a hypothetical scenario or a potential future event. Former United States President Donald Trump himself confirmed the reports indicating his nomination for the vice presidency in the United States.
