England: Test cricket captain Ben Stokes revealed on Wednesday that his family home in the Castle Eden area of North East England was burgled while he was away in Pakistan for a recent tour. The masked intruders entered the residence while his wife Claire and children, Layton and Libby, were inside. Fortunately, Stokes reported that his family suffered no physical harm, although the burglars made off with several valuable items with high sentimental worth.

Describing the incident in a social media post, Stokes said, "On the evening of Thursday 17th October, a number of masked people burgled my home." The burglars took jewelry, valuables, and several deeply personal items that, according to Stokes, hold irreplaceable sentimental value. “This is an appeal for any help in finding these people who carried out this act,” he added, expressing his hopes of recovering the stolen possessions through public assistance. He shared photographs of some stolen items, aiming to identify and apprehend the culprits.

Impact on family's well-being

While thankful for his family's safety, Stokes shared his concerns about the emotional toll the ordeal has had on his wife and young children. “The worst part of this crime,” he wrote, “is that it happened while my wife and two young children were in the house. The impact on their emotional and mental state has been profound, and all we can think about is how much worse this could have been.”

Gratitude to law enforcement

Stokes extended his gratitude to the police for their ongoing support during the incident and in his absence. He concluded, “Thank you to the police service. Both now and while I was away in Pakistan, their support for my family has been outstanding.”
