Marathi language to be part of UK curriculum now

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has been signed between the two organizations, the students will be offered an addition language course. This initiative aims to promote and preserve the Marathi language among the diaspora and other interested individuals in the UK.

In one of the major developments, the Maharashtra state government, in collaboration with Maharashtra Mandal London, is set to offer a Marathi language course in the United Kingdom. To develop the curriculum, the government has appointed a committee, chaired by the director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

This initiative aims to promote and preserve the Marathi language among the diaspora and other interested individuals in the UK. The course will provide an opportunity for people to learn and stay connected with their cultural roots.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has been signed between the two organizations, the students will be offered an addition language course. The resolution was signed on July 10 to implement the same.

How will this work?

While the curriculum will be finalized by the Maharashtra State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Balbharati will provide textbooks. According to the sources, the creation of curriculam will be based on short term course which will be formed on the basis of existing Marathi language books for class 1 to 5. 

After the completion of the course, the Maharashtra State Board will devise exams and provide certification making it formalised and accepted as short-term course available under the category of foreign languages to interested individuals.

According to The Indian Express, President of Maharashtra Mandal London, Vrushal Khandke, said, “We have been informally holding Marathi language learning for many years. This certification will now make it formalised.”
