PM Modi Kali temple crown: A silver crown, gifted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the revered Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple in Bangladesh, has been stolen. The crown, which was plated with gold, was presented by PM Modi during his visit to the temple in March 2021. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over this theft, which was captured on security cameras.

Crown stolen from historic temple

According to reports from The Daily Star, a leading Bangladeshi newspaper, the crown disappeared on Thursday afternoon. The temple priest, Dilip Mukherjee, had just completed the day’s religious rituals when the theft occurred. The crown was last seen adorning the head of Goddess Kali, where it was placed by Prime Minister Modi during his symbolic visit.

Theft discovered after worship, video surfaces

The theft reportedly took place between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. It wasn’t until the temple’s cleaning staff began their routine tasks that they noticed the crown was missing. The priest immediately reported the incident, and security footage revealed the crime.

The stolen crown holds significant cultural and religious value, as it was a personal offering from PM Modi to the temple during his state visit to Bangladesh in 2021. The gesture was part of his efforts to strengthen ties between India and Bangladesh while honoring the religious significance of the Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple.

Security concerns raised

The Indian High Commission has voiced its serious concerns about the security lapse that allowed this incident to occur. Authorities are reviewing security footage to identify the perpetrator and recover the stolen crown. Investigations are ongoing to ensure the swift return of the sacred item to the temple and to prevent future incidents.

India raises serious concerns over attack on Hindu temples, devotees

An official statement released by Ministry of External Affairs read, "We have noted with serious concern the attack on a Puja mandap in Tantibazar, Dhaka and the theft at the revered Jeshoreshwari Kali temple at Satkhira. These are deplorable events. They follow a systematic pattern of desecration and damage to temples and deities that we have witnessed over several days now. We call upon the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities and their places of worship, especially during this auspicious festival time."
